President: Mr Frank Flear OBE
Frank has had a successful business career in the local fish industry and has been President of the Youth Orchestra for over ten years. He was High Sheriff of the county of Humberside in 1995 – 96 and a Deputy Lieutenant of Lincolnshire.
Chairman: Mr Leo Solomon MBE
Our Chairman, Leo Solomon, M.B.E., was a mathematics/music teacher for many years including a 22-year stint as Director of Sixth Form in a local Comprehensive School.
He has an impressive international reputation as a solo and group jazz pianist and accompanist and has worked with more than 100 major performers.
He was elected as a Freeman of North East Lincolnshire for his services to music education. He continues to work in music as a player, conductor and lecturer in adult education.
Vice Chairman: Mr Alex Green
Alex is our Vice Chairman and Musical Director. He works locally as the Head of Expressive Arts at an Academy, having previously worked in several other schools across the country. Alex is our Trip Leader and has taken numerous trips abroad and is also our designated Child Protection Representative. Having been a member of the GCDYO when he was younger, Alex is very excited about his role within the Orchestra.
Secretary: Dr Kyla Turnham
Kyla is our Honorary Secretary. She is a local GP and really enjoys our international tours. She once played the clarinet and is keen to start playing again! Kyla loves supporting the international trips and she is first to volunteer her expertise.
Treasurer: Mr Stuart Falconer
Stuart has been our treasurer for 5 years having previously been involved in the accountancy profession in Grimsby, and since retiring has become involved with several local charities. Whilst admitting to having limited musical skills himself he greatly enjoys listening to music and supporting the orchestra.
